STIRLING CITY, Butte County — October 28, 2026. CAL FIRE has placed a proposed maintenance project at Stirling City Fire Station 13 into the state’s public environmental-record system. The agency filed a Notice of Exemption on October 12, 2026, for replacement of a deteriorated, leaking warehouse roof at 7882 Quartz Street, close to Manzanita Street.
What work is proposed?
According to the California State Clearinghouse, crews would remove the warehouse’s existing corrugated metal roof and replace it with a new standing-seam metal roof. The work would occur on an existing building within the developed fire-station site. The project description specifically states that the building footprint and operational use would not expand.
Why is the maintenance needed?
The stated reason is deterioration and water leakage. Protecting a warehouse that supports a fire station helps maintain the building for continued public-safety operations. The project filing says the proposed work is intended to be consistent with federal standards for treating historic properties, a relevant factor when modifying older structures.
What does the environmental filing establish?
The agency lists categorical exemptions under the California Environmental Quality Act for existing facilities and historic-property rehabilitation. CAL FIRE says its environmental review found no exception preventing use of those exemption categories. A filing is not evidence that the roof has already been replaced, that a specific contractor has been selected or that the station is newly open or closed.
Where can residents review the record?
The state filing includes the project title, work description, public agency and environmental rationale. Contact CAL FIRE for construction dates or any access precautions; ordinary station operations should not be assumed to change solely because a roof-maintenance notice was submitted.
